Lite Brite Brutes! Mister Miracle & Family!

Yeah, I quickly knocked out a few pieces based on the superhero I'd most like to be and his lovely wife and less-than-lovely assistant on my little Lite Brite iPhone app while drinking my morning cup o' joe and thought I'd throw them up on the blog. Enjoy....

In Brightest Day, In Dorkiest Horde...

A while back, I got thirteen different kinds of excited about the Green Lantern movie. I went out and bought a bunch of old Green Lantern comics, dove head first into the whole Blackest Night storyline, and even bought some serious Green Lantern gear, like a t-shirt and that ring/mask set that was out in stores for a hot second.

Then I saw the movie and felt completely robbed of two hours of my life. What a  piece of crap.

But back when I was still deep in the throes of Green Lantern  fever, I wanted nothing more than an actual light-up Green Lantern ring of my very own. And after a quick trip to Toys R Us, I was finally a ring-bearing member of the Corps!

Sadly, however, light-up accessories to comic book superheroes that are sold in toy stores are apparently size for (get this) children!

Whaaaaaaaaaaaat?!

Well, I should have expected as much. There's nothing like putting on an ill-fitting piece of children's superhero jewelry to really make you feel like an overgrown schmuck. So, I sat the ring to the side, had a good cry, and then went on with my life.

Fast forward a few months when I would receive a surprise package from our good friend Jboy Pacman (of  Cosmic Ark fame), and among the multitude of awesomeness contained therein, what do I find but another Green Lantern ring just like the one I already had. But there was a difference.... Jboy had customized it to fit the hands of a full-ground comic-loving nerd!

Aaaawwww YEAH! Evildoers better look out tonight! I got a power ring that fits and I'm gonna make giants green fists to punch them with!

I have no idea how he did it. My sculpting skills totally suck. Did I mention that they light up?

Anyway, my heartfelt thanks to the mighty Jboy Pacman for adding to my hero arsenal.

And now for a little cheap-looking lens flare...

That's it for today here in the Lair of the Dork Horde. I'm gonna go tie up some bad guys in glowing green nets for the police to pic up and then I'm gonna go find Ryan Reynolds and make a giant green mallet to smash him over the head with until he agrees to stop making superhero movies. See ya!

Collection Dump! Kenner Indiana Jones Edition!

Next to Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark was pretty much the greatest movie I had ever seen. When my mom told me we were going to see it, I thought it was a movie about Noah's Ark, and I begged for her to not make me sit through some stupid bible movie. But she promised me there would be skeletons and snakes and sword fights (I guess she saw some previews) and that it had Han Solo in it and after that little tidbit of information, I was in.

Thank the gods. Because I just don't know what my life would have been like without that bullwhip wielding archeologist striking such a major chord in me and sparking a furious lust for adventure within my young, impressionable heart.

So it goes without saying that I loved the toys as a kid, too. However, I never had many of them. Just Indy and Toht, actually. But that didn't stop me from sending my Indy on tons of adventures usually involving digging up this plastic mummy sarcophagus I has with an awakened Warduke (from LJN's Dungeons & Dragons line) waiting inside. (But I've told that story over and over.)

A while back, I managed to score several mint figures in the original Kenner Indiana Jones collection, but never got around to showing off a couple of other, namely Salah and Toht, that I got from our good friend Colin from Super-Duper Toybox. Thanks Colin!

Anyway, since I was rearranging the Nerdatorium and taking pics of stuff in my collection, I thought I'd take a moment and post these pics for all to enjoy. So... you know... enjoy.

One of these days, I'll get around to getting the rest in this collection. But some of it is so rare, I'll probably have to coordinate a dig in Egypt to find them.

League of Extraordinary Bloggers Weekly Theme: Hollywood Memorabilia

Our good friend Brian over at Cool & Collected has started up a brilliant new blog series where he throws out a subject and all of us who have taken up the banner of The League of Extraordinary Bloggers write a little something about that weeks subject.

I, for one, am all in, so expect to see this new feature every week right here in The Lair.

This week's topic: You have an unlimited budget and space is not a problem. What piece of Hollywood memorabilia would you want hanging around in your batcave?

Holy difficult decisions! I have to be honest and admit that this subject caused me to lose sleep. Ever since I was a kid, i have been compiling a list of items from movies and TV that I wish I actually owned. But I always pined for the actual fantasy versions of such items, such as real working lightsabers or the ship from The Last Startfighter.

But I imagine that this week's assignment is more about Hollywood props, so I have to keep things realistic. But then again, Brian has given a ton of room with the unlimited budget and space. This set me off down the road of imagination littered with such geeky delights as a life-size replica of the Millennium Falcon. But that even seemed too over the top for me.

So I have decided to imagine that I have won a considerable amount of moola in the lottery, so I am limited to at most 100 million, and I have also limited myself to a more realistic amount of space, such as what may be found on the property of a millionaire's home.

That's why I have chosen to have a special 5 car garage filled with my top 5 replica vehicles from movies and TV.

And those 5 vehicles are as follows:

1. The General Lee

2. The 1966 Batmobile

3. The Ecto-1

4. The Back to the Future Delorean

5. The A-Team Van

Yes, I know I'm cheating a bit by picking 5 things, but I'm looking at the entire garage filled with these vehicles as sort of one big thing. Also, yes, I said replicas. The thought of owning one of the original pieces used in the actual movie or TV show just turns my stomach. What if I crashed one of them? This way, if I have replicas, I'm not afraid to drive the Batmobile in Comic Con parades or take the General Lee out for a spin on some country dirt road or go get groceries in the A-Team van.

And I know I left out some killer rides, and I was pretty close to including such four-wheeled beauties as the Mystery Machine and the Munster's Koach, but I had to put some sort of parameters on the list or else I would have gone crazy and the next thing you know, the list would be 100 vehicles long and contain such cars as Garth's Pacer from Wayne's World.

But anyhoo, there it is, my first post for The League of Extraordinary Bloggers. I can't wait to see how this series progresses! Thanks to Brian over at Cool & Collected for coming up with this.

See you all next time.

Please see the complete list of posts from the Extraordinary League of Bloggers and show their blogs some love. Thanks!

(By the way, I stole all of these pics from various sites on the internet and then forgot to bookmark where I found them, so if I stole your pic and you'd like me to add a credit or link or just take it down, no problemo. My bad.)

Tales from the 25¢ Bin!

It's time again for Tales from the 25¢ Bin, where I basically show off my spoils from a recent dive into the cheap-o bin at my favorite local used book store. There's nothing like digging through the stacks for some hidden gems, toting a pile up to the cash register and then walking out only $2.50 poorer. Life is good for cheapskate comic nerds like me.

Here we go...

First up, we have Adventure Comics #1. No idea about this one. Just thought it looked cool and for a quarter it could be pretty cool, especially since I'm getting into learning more about DC characters these days.

Next we have an issue of Batman back when Jason Todd was still alive (and I don't count this HUSH/Red Hood crap, dead is dead, damn it). This was apparently back in Jason's throwing-people-off-roofs phase.

Here we have a few issue of G.I. Joe. I loved this series back in the day (as well as the toys and cartoon), and scoring a couple of issues with my numero uno favorite Joe member on the cover is pretty dope. I also have distinctly fond memories of this issue of Special Missions. I remember that it came out the summer after 8th grade just before my comic collecting would go on hiatus for most of my high school years, due mostly to the fact that all of my comics got thrown out in the Forced Purge of '87. This was one of the last comics I ever bought before they all went into the dumpster.

Here we have a one shot from Dan Brereton, who is a hell of a guy (I met him at Emerald City Comic Con a couple of years ago, and he was totally cool to chat with), and one of my favorite artists, and I'll pretty much by any comic of his that I come across. Heck, I would even have paid 50¢ for this!

And finally, the superhero that I most want to be (especially with a wife like Barda), Mister Miracle! Frankly, I think I already have these issues, but for 25¢, I grabbed them anyway, just in case.

So that's it for this latest score! Keep your peepers peeped for more upcoming Tales from the 25¢ Bin!

Collection Dump! Spider-Man Edition!

I've been cleaning up the Dork Horde HQ (aka The Nerdatorium) lately and storing away some toys, but before they get boxed up and banished to the attic, I thought it would be wise to take pics of everything. Well, that leaves me with tons of pics of toys and nothing to do with them. What's that? I have a blog dedicated to all manner of nerdy stuff such as toys? By Stan Lee's mustache, you're right! Well then, get your eyeballs ready for a big, fat collection dump!
