31 Days of Vintage Halloween Costumes! Day 9

  1. I tell this story every year, so here goes... You all may notice the two different Darth Vader costumes above. Well, the one with the portrait of Vader on the front is apparently the American version and the one with the costumed body of Vader on it is from the British release, but I swear to all that I hold dear upon this earth that the version I wore when I was 6 years old, was the alleged British version, as I distinctly remember looking at the body of Vader and thinking how cool it looked.

Now, my Dad picked up the costume for me one day. Just came home from work with it. So I have no idea where he got it. Part of me wonders since we lived in Michigan, so close to Canada, that maybe some of the versions they had in the land of maple syrup and hockey were the British versions and some leaked into my area? Does anyone know what the Canadian version of the Darth Vader costume looked like?

I know I'm not crazy (at least I hope I'm not), and I swear I even remember the mask looking more like the British version.

I'd ask my dad but he has zero room for this kind of stuff in his memory banks.

Anyway, this will always be one of my greatest mysteries.

  2. Thanks for that. I was wondering where those alternate Star Wars costumes came from, I thought they were bootlegs.

  3. That Go-Bot one is great...although I don't think they'd print the word kill on a kids costume nowadays. The Cylon would be great just to have the mask to run around in!
