Right up there with fat guys in red suits and piles of toys around a twinkling tree, animated Christmas specials are an integral part of the holiday season for me.
Of course, they were special when I was a kid because they came on exactly once a year and you had to be on top of that TV Guide to make sure you didn't miss any of them.
These days you can randomly turn to ABC Family channel or the Hub or Boomarang and pretty much guarantee that one is on at any given moment of any day in the month of December.
Still, there are a few that I make jolly well sure I see at least once a year, even if it is a DVD marathon all in one sitting.
Here they are...
With Honorable mention going to...
Except for the Pac-Man one, we are on the same page. We also make time for other Rankin-Bass classics, as well as Emmett Otter's Jug-Band Christmas!
ReplyDeleteEmmett Otter is my favorite too. It is a shame he is not on DVD at Target right now. In fact I have never seen one out in the wild.
ReplyDeleteI picked up Emmett a few years ago. The DVD is totally worth it just for the making of stuff on it. It will blow your mind!
DeleteOh yeah! Emmett Otter is a classic! I need to get it on DVD.
DeleteSome most excellent picks!
ReplyDeleteNo Garfield's Christmas??
ReplyDeleteI can't go a Christmas season without watching Garfield. Also Pee-Wee's Playhouse, which I make my kids sit through, and Jim Henson's The Christmas Toy.
DeleteCharlie Brown, Rudolph, Mickey's C.C., and Grinch all make the playlist... but I've also found I can't go a season without movies like Elf and The Polar Express (I don't get why so many people HATE that movie!)
I've always loved Garfield's Christmas, but it just isn't one of my "must see" shows every year.
DeleteBut I agree with GG, Elf has quickly become an annual tradition in our home along with Christmas Vacation and A Christmas Story.
Polar Express was just okay in my book. My dad loves the hell out of it, though.
