Zombie Captain America Custom Funko Pop!

Hey guys! I just wanted to share a quick shot of my latest custom Funko Pop. This time I whipped up a Zombie Captain America from the Marvel Zombies graphic novel.

Hope you all dig him!

By the way, if you haven't read the Marvel Zombies books, I strongly suggest that you remedy that as soon as possible. They're tons of fun!

Deadpool Unmasked! Funko Pop Style...

Whaddup, fellow Hordytes! I just wanted to take a quick second to show off the painted sample we just got in from our factory of the long-awaited (by some people, somewhere in the world, I'm sure) unmasked Deadpool Pop! figure.

This will be an exclusive (can't remember where, sorry), but from what I've been reading on the forums and whatnot, the unmasked version of the "merc with a mouth" has been on many Funko Pop! collectors' wish lists. I just realized how ironic it is that he doesn't have a mouth in this form.

The body was designed by long-time Funko designer, Rob Schwartz, I just designed the new head.

Also, I know it looks a little sloppy in the pic, but that's often the case with hand-painted samples. The final piece will be much more crisp and precise.

Anyway, I was just feeling a little showy-offy. Hope you dig him!

Vintage Marvel Novels!

I just wanted to take a quick second to share this minty stack of vintage Marvel novels I scored at my favorite used book store. I've never even seen these before, and at $2 a pop, I snapped them up quicker than hungry hippo snaps up white marbles.

I've yet to read them, so they may be complete garbage, but after reading the first chapter of one of the Spider-Man books over a 12" meatball sub at Subway, I gotta say, the writing wasn't too bad. But, that could've been the meatball sub talking.

Anyway, check it...

If nothing else, you gotta dmit that these covers are gorgeous! Excelsior!

'Nuff said!

Marvel Comics Movie Adaptation: Dragonslayer!

I love comic book movie adaptations! Well, most of them. Not all.

But today's example is a prime example of killer adaptationizing (yes, I just made up that word).

When I as younger, before VCRs, DVDs or BluRays, the only way you could rewatch a movie was on HBO or whatever. Which was great and all, but you were subject to the whims of the programming people and you sort of had to hope your favorite movie was coming on. But a great way to "watch and re-watch" a favorite flick was through the magic of comic book movie adaptations.

And one such adaptation I remember loving was the Marvel Comics adaptation of Dragonslayer!

I loved and didn't love this movie as a kid. It was weird. There were things about it that always sort of annoyed me, but that didn't stop me from watching it over and over on cable TV and then, of course, reading the comic book version like crazy.

Unlike the Willow adaptation, this one is beautifully drawn and in full color.

I remember the dragon design int he movie pretty much setting the standard for me as far as what a dragon was supposed to look like. They nailed the look of the beast in the comic as well.

Looking back on this movie, I remember thinking that the main character was the blond friend from Charles in Charge (it's not), that the girl was the hella unattractive (that was the point, I guess) and that the wizard's hat looked like it was a big poop (it may have been).

Still, despite my love/hate feelings toward the movie, the comic adaptation is amazing. I really wish they still did these.

Marvel Heroes Thumb Heads!

Once again we visit the wonderful world of vending machine (or gashapon) toys with these little oddities that I originally saw in a machine outside of a local movie theater, but then (and this is a sign of the times) instantly thought, "I bet I can just buy all of these on eBay." Turns out I was right.

Ladies and germs, I present to you the Marvel Heroes Thumb Heads! Or whatever they're called. I just made that up.

Basically, what they are are little rubber "masks" that you're supposed to fit over your thumb for those harrowing bouts of thumb wrestling that tend to happen while at recess, or on the bus, or standing in line at the bank, or while having dinner with your in-laws. I really don't know if kids today are still thumb wrestling, but when I was a lad it was right up there with playing paper football and pencil fights.

Let's take a look at these...

As you can see, these are clearly made by the same folks who designed the little Marvel big-headed gashapon figures that I rambled on about a couple of weeks ago. you can see by their faces

And, although I'm well aware of their original purpose, I couldn't help but notice that these make excellent masks for just about any action figure in the collection. Look! Instant Secret Wars collection!

Of course, they never made a Secret Wars Hulk, but I digress.

Anyhoodle, that's all for today! Excelsior, True Believers!

Marvel Comics Gashapon!

For those of you who don't know what "Gashapon" is, it's a fancy Japanese word for toys that come out of gumball machines. At first I was like, "Why the hell do we need a word for that?!" but then I was like, "Actually, that is pretty smart. I always just called them gumball machine toys, and this new term is much more fun to say." So, there you have it. Gashapon.

Anyhoodle, over a year ago, I scored some of those killer little Marvel Comics bubble-headed characters in a vending machine near a local comic shop and instantly fell in love with them. There was just something about their odd proportions and clean graphics. I had only managed to find three of the initial six, but one of my stellar cyber-homies, MORS, was awesome enough to track down the other three. He sent them to me and the complete set of six have held a place of honor among my toy display ever since. (Which reminds me, I think I owe MORS some original art, too.)

Basically, the way these puppies work is that you plunk in some quarters and this little round head falls out. You pop the head into two halves (like one of those plastic easter eggs) and the stubby little body is inside. There's sort of this nub thingy that works as its neck around which you snap the head on. and bam! You've got yourself an adorable little superhero!

Well, last week, during one of my many eBay trollings, I happen to stumble onto wave 2 of the Marvel buble-headed gashapon! I had no idea they even came out. The couple of vending machines in my area still have wave 1. Anyway, about $7 later, I was a proud owner of said series and they arrived the other day. Check 'em out!

Oh man, I love these toys. Here's to hoping that they make a series 3! I would kill for Ghost Rider!

Bonus Post! World War Hulk vs. Captain America!

Picked up a couple figures this weekend; Marvel Universe World War Hulk and Super Combat Captain America and I've got to say that these are two of the best damn action figures I have bought in a long time! I staged a little battle royale in front of my $2.00 clearanced Prince of Persia Alamut Gate and took some pics. Enjoy!

I'll be posting full reviews soon on my About.com Action Figures site!
