Tales from the 25¢ Bin! Battlestar Galactica Edition!

I have been having so much unbelievable luck at the 25¢ bin lately, that I'm going to have a hard time catching up blogging about them all. But that won't stop me from trying.

Today, we're talking about a score that's practically bubbling over with late-'70s awesomeness, issues #2-#5 of the Marvel Comics adaptation/continuation of Battlestar Galactica!

As a kid, Battlestar Galactica was always sort of a dopey cousin of Star Wars, but back then, when we were starving for more intergalactic battles and freaky aliens, Battlestar Galactica would do in a pinch. I had a few of the toys (I've often described the integration of my Cylon figure into my Star Wars action figure adventures, playing the role of Darth Vader's long lost son), and would watch the TV show when I could, but I was never a mad fanatic of the Star Wars knock-off.

I don't recall reading any of the comic s as a kid, but now, thanks to the cheap-o bin at my favorite local used book store, I can give these babies a whirl and see how they hold up. Actually, I think I need to find issue #1 first, but I think I may have it in my long boxes somewhere.

I better get to digging. I've got some retro reading to do.

  1. I didn't even know that Marvel had done books on Battlestar! How cool and not much of a discount of there original cover price of .40 cents either lol. Man those were the days of cheap comic books heck i remember buying new comics for .25 to .35 cents man was that long ago.

  2. I have never been a Battlestar fan, classic or reboot. I have nothing against it, it just never seemed like it would be my thing. That being said, cheesy 80's Marvel comics adapting any property are always gold. If for no other reason than the cheese.

  3. I love grabing the old Marvel issues of stuff. You never know...sometimes they are actually good! I started reading old issues of Indiana Jones and love em, as well as the Micronauts, Shogun Warriors on the other hand.....not so much. I might have to pick up Battlestar, it might give me a better impression of the series.

    1. Well, first off, I never saw the connection between the Micronauts toys and the comic book. But the Shogun Warriors comic was awesomeness times a gazillion! Non-stop giant robot action!

And I agree with you on the Marvel Indiana Jones comics. They were a real treat. They always felt very well grounded in the Indiana Jones world.

    2. I dont think there was much of a connection between the Micronauts toys and the comic but I didnt have many of the toys...I just think the comic is a decent read. Shogun Warriors.... I have to admit I'm only 5 isuues in but its just not doing it for me but I'll keep going, there arent many in the series anyway. Did you read the Battlestar ones? Are they good?

    3. I haven't read them yet, because I need to get into my long boxes and dig out issue #1, if I have it (which I think I do).

    4. Micronauts had some of the characters but I don't think the toy line had much of a story to start with. I really liked that book, especially Marionette. (Giggidy)
